How to Do a Word Study

All,

Below this post is Module 11. I wanted to list this separately so that you would not miss it. You word studies will be due in about 3 weeks. I wanted to list the requirements and to give you instructions on how to do a word study:

From Syllabus:

A 5-6 page word study will be due at the end of the semester. This will be a formal research paper with footnotes, typed and double spaced with 12pt font and a bibliography of references. At least five references should be used not including the Bible.

Begin by selecting a word that is main line Bible. Preferrably from the following list:

Grace, Faith, Peace, Joy, Life, spirit, power, baptism, salvation, pride, sin, truth

You may suggest other words if you like, but please email me for approval.

1. Begin by defining the word in English and give the variant uses.
2. Then give us the def. of the word in Hebrew and Greek and give references for its use. Don't go overboard on this. Just give us enough to get the main idea and to thoroughly reference your word.
3. Give us the etymology of the word - its historical development, how it was used and/ or altered throughout time.
4. Use Strong's Concordance to give us the root of the word. Use a Lexicon to help you see what other words are taken from this root to give you a fuller meaning. Make sure you don't change the original meaning of the word by this. It is only to help us see a bigger picture into how the word developed.
5. AFter breaking this down, give us your own thoughts as to how the word is important to a Christians life and to you life specifically.

Any questions? Email me.

David
